Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach understands the importance of education and supports it's members through tutoring, mentoring, and helping them see their true potential.

College Readiness and Future Success Programs

A targeted program for Academic Success, Diplomas to Degrees (d2D) helps teen Club members overcome the college readiness gap by preparing them to succeed as they pursue post-secondary credentials for the modern workforce.  It is a targeted program that encourages teens to make connections between their interests and future career paths, plan and prepare to enter postsecondary education, and develop the social-emotional skills and attributes to be successful in their educational endeavors. 

Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach is thrilled to celebrate the exceptional and enduring support from Marathon Petroleum, marking a 15-year commitment that has resulted in over $1 million in vital funding for our teen programs. Marathon Petroleum's steadfast dedication has had a profound impact on the youth of Long Beach, particularly those at our Freeman E. Fairfield/Westside Club

STEM:

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Ages 9-12: DIY STEM is a hands-on, activity-based STEM curriculum which connects youth to science themes they encounter regularly. Special attention is paid to connections of theory and application and the common interactions members have with these scientific principles. DIY STEM currently includes five modules: Energy and Electricity, Engineering Design, Food Chemistry, Science of Sports: Football.


Power Hour:

Ages 6-18: PowerHour: Making Minutes Count helps Club members achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring, and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners. 


Ultimate Journey:

Ages 9-13: Ultimate Journey is designed to engage youth in fun, experiential, environmental education activities. It cultivates an awareness and appreciation of the natural wonders that surround young people.


CareerLaunch:

Ages 13-18: CareerLaunch is a job-readiness and career preparation program for teens. It provides fun and interactive activities to explore a broad range of career areas, match their interest to career clusters and identify the skills and education needed for their particular career path. It is designed to support youth in preparing for their first job, internships, summer employment and so much more!


Project Learn:

Ages 6-12: Project Learn is a holistic strategy supporting learning in Clubs. Project Learn is intended to complement and reinforce what youth learn during the school day, while creating experiences that invite them to fall in love with learning. Rooted in social-emotional development practices, programs in this area enable all youth to be effective, engaged, adaptive learners who are on track to graduate with a plan for the future. As an informal learning space, Clubs have an opportunity to offer both remediation and enrichment, all while inviting youth to discover and pursue passions that connect to future opportunities. Project Learn includes experiential learning, so that youth learn actively, through a "hands-on and mind-on" approach.


Money Matters:

Ages 13-18: Money Matters helps teens gain useful knowledge and skills on various aspects of financial responsibility and independence by building their basic money management skills., Participants learn how to manage a checking account, budget, save and invest. They also learn about starting small businesses and paying for college. 


Computer Science:

Ages 10-18: Computer Science program will develop critical thinking, problem-solving and coding through developing web sites, computer programs, robots and video games.


Summer Brain Gain :

Ages 6-18: Summer Learning Loss is the loss of academic skills by students over the summer and it can have a devastating effect on America's kids, especially those who don't participate in enriching summer activities. Summer Brain Gain is a fun, interactive project-based learning program designed for summer in the Club! It engages youth in activities that help build and reinforce academic skills all summer long, thus mitigating summer learning loss.
