As a former member of the Boys & Girls Clubs, I know how important it is to have a safe place where a young person can go and feel like he or she will be taken seriously. A casual expression of interest by a staff person or volunteer can change a child’s perception of how they view themselves and lead them to positive activities and time well spent as well as create lifelong friendships. Healthy communities need to devote resources to helping their youth grow and flourish – to become healthy adults.
